On Sunday, 28th September, the Rt Revd. Rosemarie Mallett, Bishop of Croydon, led a special service to welcome Fr Michael Walcott, who came to London earlier this summer.
Fr Michael, who was born and raised in Barbados, where he trained for ordination at Codrington Seminary in the Diocese of Barbados, and where he served as Priest in Charge of St Jude’s Parish and as Deanery Youth Chaplain for St John’s Deanery.
He will work closely with the Revd Andrew Bishop. Together, they will serve the parish, with Fr. Michael offering dedicated pastoral and liturgical ministry to the John Whitgift Foundation, a charity that has supported Croydon in care and education since 1596.

Fr Michael’s role will support the Vicar’s ministry throughout the parish of Croydon, especially as a Croydon Minster. It includes providing chaplaincy at Whitgift School and Whitgift Care by being present in those communities, leading worship, offering pastoral care and Christian faith formation, and exploring how chaplaincy can grow across the Foundation in the future.
Bishop Rosemarie stated, “It was a pleasure to formally welcome Fr Michael to his dual role as Chaplain to the John Whitgift Foundation and Associate Vicar of Croydon Minster. Michael has made an excellent start to his work in Croydon, and we look forward to witnessing the continued growth of his ministry and leadership, particularly in his spiritual and pastoral engagement with young people.”
