This community effort was the initiative of two Barbadian groups in the UK, Barbados Overseas Communities and Families Association and BooksNTingz, who undertake charitable projects in Barbados.

Retired Barbadian University lecturer, Trade Unionist, and Administrator, Doctor Beverley Goring, was elected Chairperson of The National Council of Barbadian Associations in the UK at the group’s recent Bi-Annual AGM in Birmingham.

When the British first settled in Barbados in 1627, it was uninhabited. Enslaved Africans worked the sugar plantations established on the island, which initially dominated the Caribbean sugar industry.
The agenda delved into the crucial topic of how hostile rhetoric and narratives tied to ‘race’ and religion have fuelled far-right-related activities over the last decade and a half (especially the riots in August 2024) and posed a serious threat to the unity of our communities.
Barbadian Canon Revd David Tudor, Rector of Canvey Island in the Diocese of Chelmsford, has been prohibited from ministry for life and removed from his post as Rector by the Bishop of Southwark’s Disciplinary Tribunal, a body responsible for adjudicating on disciplinary matters within the Church, following a hearing on Monday, 28th October and Tuesday, 29th October.
