Cheryl Butcher, former Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) employee and wife of cricketer Roland Butcher, was buried on Wednesday, 6th May. Her funeral took place at St Peter’s Church in Iver, Buckinghamshire, and was attended by many family, friends and many others from the cricketing community.
In a heartfelt tribute, Roland Butcher, a former professional cricketer who made history as the first Black player to represent England in international cricket, said,
“Cheryl was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose warmth, strength and unwavering love were the foundation of her family.”

The couple were married for 46 years, sharing over 50 years of love and partnership. She is survived by her husband, Roland; her children, Paul and Michelle; and her grandchildren, Leevon, Leighenna, and Chase, who will always cherish her memory.
Diaspora attache to the Barbados High Commission in the UK, Betty Lewis, also delivered a message from the High Commissioner, who was unable to attend.
The Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) Board of Directors, management, staff, and members extended their condolences. Cheryl dedicated over two decades to the Barbados Cricket Association, which described her as a vibrant spirit and a true pillar of the organisation. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Cheryl passed away in March 2026, leaving a lasting legacy as a dedicated supporter of the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club. The club honoured her as an important contributor to the community and a strong advocate for young female cricketers in Barbados.
