A murder investigation has been launched in the UK after retired electrician Barbadian Richard Braithwaite was fatally stabbed on Cromwell Road in Wembley, Middlesex.
A death that has shocked the local community in the quiet cul de sac
Police were called at 11:59hrs on Thursday, 21st March, to reports of a stabbing. Police Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. On arrival at the scene, they found a 72-year-old man was found with a stab wound. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been notified.
A reliable source said that Richard stumbled back into the house after being attacked; his wife Ann ran out and was also attacked and ended up in the hospital, where she received five stitches in her mouth.
The incident took place on the street where the victim lived, and local police have appealed to anyone who witnessed it or has dashcam footage to get in touch immediately.
Following fast-time enquiries, a neighbour, a 72-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken to a north London police station, where he remains at this time.
Detective Inspector Jonny Newell said: “While we retain an open mind concerning motive, I want to confirm that we believe this was an isolated incident, and we aren’t currently seeking any further suspects at this time.
Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis, leading local policing in Brent, said: “Residents will notice a more visible police presence in the coming days, not only at the scene but also to provide reassurance to the community following this tragic incident.
“We fully understand that violence, such as this, sends shockwaves through the community, and I urge anyone with concerns to approach officers on patrol or contact their local neighbourhood team. “
