At Orwell Quay in Ipswich, Suffolk, the Red Ensign carried a deeper meaning. For those gathered- former seamen, families, colleagues, and officials of the Merchant Navy Association, it marked a long-overlooked chapter of maritime history.
This was to remember and honour the great sacrifice of all seafarers who were lost to the world’s oceans so that we may live in peace today
