A Barbadian Choir celebrating 30 years of formation has opted to tour southern England and perform its extensive repertoire.
For three decades, the harmonious tapestry woven by The Celestial Voices Choir has uplifted audiences across continents, blending tradition with innovation in every note. Their concerts, which span classical music, spirituals, and music from Broadway Shows, will culminate with a distinctive blend of music from the Caribbean, including folk songs and contemporary music. This diverse repertoire promises to captivate and inspire audiences.
The Choir will start their tour with a concert at Greyfriars in Reading Town Centre, with the fervent hope that they will be able to raise the roof of this splendid auditorium. The town is reputed to be the home of the largest settlement of Barbadians in the UK, and it has a rich and diverse community.
BACKGROUND
This interdenominational group from Barbados was formed in 1994 by Andrew Hall, the organist and choirmaster of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Black Rock, Barbados. These amateur musicians began their journey with a shared passion for music and a commitment to using their voices as instruments of harmony and spiritual reflection. Through countless rehearsals, vibrant performances, and heartfelt collaborations, they have grown into a family and a beacon of musical excellence, a journey we can all be proud of.
The Choir has been touring since 1994 and has performed in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Brampton in Canada. It has also performed in Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Boston, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The choir has also held numerous concerts in Brooklyn and Queens, New York, and ministered in Grenada and Trinidad.
As they mark this significant milestone, Andrew Hall said, “We reflect not only on our rich history but also on the horizons yet to be explored. Each anniversary invites us to honour our roots while seeking fresh inspiration, reaching new audiences, and forging connections through our shared language of song. This year, we stand on the threshold of new adventures, ready to share the depth and diversity of our repertoire beyond familiar shores.
