Shut-in members of St. Phillip the Less in Boscobelle St. Peter recently received a consignment of unperishable goods, clothing, and books from folk in London.
This community effort was the initiative of two Barbadian groups in the UK, Barbados Overseas Communities and Families Association and BooksNTingz, who undertake charitable projects in Barbados. In recent years, both organisations have donated to the DH4 in Drax Hall, where hampers were given to the needy in their catchment area.
The term shut-in might be unknown to those in the UK, as churches here say housebound. Nevertheless, both terms describe congregation members who have difficulty attending church but are regularly visited by their local Priest. Some of the foodstuffs were donated, but the main bulk was purchased with funds received from both organisations. Jetload Trading, in Stoke Newington, reputed to be one of the first Black-owned shippers to Barbados, facilitated the transportation.
Rev. Reginald Knight, The Priest in charge at St. Phillip the Less in Boscobelle, St. Peter, said,” Thanks again on behalf of the Church family here at St. Philip the Less; all of our shut-in members have benefited from your kindness. We appreciate it.
