A LIL BIT A BIM

26 May, 2024

A Lil Bit A Bim moves to Coalville in Leicester.

A Lil Bit a Bim is the flagship fundraiser of the National Council of Barbadian Associations (NCBA). We collaborate with the Barbados High Commission to connect Barbadian communities around the UK.

It was initially launched in 2011 so that people of all ages could socialise and experience the traditions of Barbados in a program that includes food, products, music, cricket, and dancing. It also provides a fun way of uniting all Barbadians with their heritage and culture by encouraging solid links to the island that will endure through the generations.

Midland’s locations were chosen to close the loop where nationals feel isolated from events in London. Based on feedback from most attendees, last year’s event in Burton-on-Trent was great, but our new location at Broomleys Cricket Clubhouse, Blackwood Rd, Coalville, could be even better as our new location is residential and close to local shops.

In recent years, this event has proven to be the ideal marketplace to purchase most Barbadian products in the UK. A general invitation will be sent to importers. It will also allow exporters to display products and services and provide information. Businesses that have supported us include Newmont Travel, City of Bridgetown Co-operative Credit Union Ltd, Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union, CBC, Q in the Community, Caribbean Trading Ltd, Dees Imports, Barbados Investment & Development Corporation, and Tasha’s Boutiques.

In addition to this, our advertising and marketing will be aimed at the host community, producing even more opportunities for businesses to expand their brands to more expansive areas. Among our distinguished attendees was His excellent  Sir Garfield Sobers. In 2022, Her Excellency, the Most Honourable Dame Sandra Prunella Mason,  the first President of the Republic of Barbados, made a surprise visit to the event accompanied by Major David Clarke, ADC, Barbados High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency Milton Inniss, and other members of his diplomatic staff.

We have been entertained by Lil Rick, Rhesa Garnes, Kirk Brown, Admiral Nelson, Donella, Statement, Youngblood, and RPB (Red Plastic Bag). Local Bajan Heritage artists like Devine, Ms Desire, and Carrol Mapp have all performed at the event in recent years. In 2023, our headliner was Nikita, “The Orange Songbird.”. this year’s songbird will be Rhesa Garnes, making a return appearance and UK-based Terrah Dan.
